Assessment Summary:
The student is required to write, document and submit a written report which includes the data collection, analysis and documentation process to identify business requirements. The report must cover the following tasks: · Task 1: Identifying key information sources of business requirements · Task 2: Gathering data of business requirements · Task 3: Analysing the collected data to identify the business requirements · Task 4: Documenting the data analysis according to organisational standards
The assessment conditions are as follows: · Assessment method: this assessment is in the form of a written report. · Assessment mode: this is an open book assessment. Students can refer to learning resources and other relevant sources to produce the written report. · Writing and referencing requirements: ü Word count: minimum 1000 words ü Referencing: All references (source of information) must be included in the written report and cited using the Harvard citation style. Note: The student must include student name, student ID, unit code and unit name in the report. |

Assessment Details:
Scenario: You (the student) are hired as an IT support engineer by ATMC college located in Melbourne CBD, to perform some upgrades to the current network. ATMC college is a registered training organisation which offers students different courses ranging from Certificate IV to Advanced Diploma level of study in Business and IT streams. You need to develop requirements for a Learning Management System (LMS). The LMS will be used by the trainers and off-campus students. The purpose of this is to add an online learning environment for the students who are currently attending. The college has released their strategic plan as followings: · Main aim of ATMC in planning LMS is to offer complete range of courses nationally through the implementation of a highly collaborative online teaching environment · ATMC targets to increase their student base to 5,000 students through use of this environment · LMS will play a role as a platform for providing resources online to its learners. They can interact with academic assistance and can access third party materials and modules. Requirements: As an IT support engineer, you are responsible to gather data for identifying business requirements. The data collection, analysis and documentation process must be recorded in a report.
The report must contain all of the following tasks: Task 1: Identifying key information sources of business requirements, including: · Name information sources which are needed to identify business domain. · Name information sources which are needed to identify the current and future directions of the organization · Review existing organisational documentation. At least 2 of the following documents must be reviewed. o annual report o brochures o business forms o current systems o facilitated group sessions or group discussions o financial statements o performance reports o policy documents including quality assurance practices o website · Describe the current industry accepted hardware and software products, general features and capabilities suited to the project. · Examine the system’s current hardware, software and communication functionality. · Identify the stakeholders in the scenario, their roles and their degree of involvement in the process. · Use a wide range of questions to elicit the information from key stakeholders · List critical questions to elicit information from key stakeholders Task 2: Gathering data of business requirements, including: · Demonstrate use of a variety of techniques to collect information. At least 2 of the following techniques must be used. o Observation o workshop o questionnaires o surveys o interview · Specify current and future directions of the organization · Review reports, statistics, other information sources for business requirements · Review quality assurance practices · Outline the business-critical factors relating organization vision with key stakeholders. Business-critical factors may include: o customer confidence o customer demographics o data knowledge and management o expectations o response times o scalability o security o traffic Task 3: Analysing the collected data to identify the business requirements, including: · Define the client business domain, so that the business needs are understood by project team and client. · Analyse organizational documentation and all other related data sources to identify business priority based on business strategy and current and future directions. · Analyse the group as well as individual responses of stakeholders to define business priorities · Describe the information gathering techniques and processes used. · Review the current industry accepted hardware and software products and related functionalities to identify the one which best suits the current system’s hardware, software and communication functionality. · Specify quality assurance practices required when determining the requirements. Task 4: Documenting data analysis to identify business requirements appropriately according to organisational standards*. · Document data analysis to identify business requirements appropriately according to the standards of the organization you are working with. Document may include: o Business requirement specifications o Textual documentation, such as system-requirement specifications o Case diagrams o Wireframes *Note:Details for documentation standards is as follows: · May include but are not restricted to policy relating to sign-off, storage, distribution, revision · Standards may include ISO/IEC/AS standards, organisational standards, project standards (for further information refer to the Standards Australia website at: www.standards.com.au) · May include tools for documenting (e.g. word processing packages, desktop publishing packages) |

· Important information about assessments:
· In written tests and multiple-choice tests, students must answer all questions correctly to achieve a satisfactory result for the assessment. · In observation tasks, written projects, or presentations, students must satisfactorily meet the expected performance requirements, and achieve a satisfactory result for all items on the assessor checklist to receive a satisfactory result for the assessment. · Students must achieve a satisfactory result for all assessments in a unit of competency to be deemed competent for the unit. · Students have up to three (3) attempts to complete each assessment task. If after the third attempt for any assessment task, the student does not achieve a satisfactory result, he/she will receive a result of “Not Satisfactory” for the assessment and will be deemed “Not Yet Competent” for the unit. · If a student is not satisfied with any aspect of the assessment process, he/she may lodge a formal complaint or appeal by submitting the form SS116 Student Complaint & Appeal Form available on ATMC’s website (www.atmc.edu.au) to ATMC’s student support email address at e.support@atmc.edu.au or at the support centre(s).Where an appeal relates to an assessment decision, ATMC will appoint the course coordinator/alternate assessor to validate the assessment judgement and evidence gathered.
