Purpose

The purpose of this case conceptualisation is to develop a deeper and practical understanding of how to draw upon theories and models of grief and loss in developing a case conceptualisation and treatment plan for a client experiencing grief.

Process:

You are to provide a case conceptualisation of one of the case studies provided. This should provide your understanding of the client’s presenting issues and, based on this understanding, outline your treatment plan (how you would go about treating this client).

You are to draw upon the knowledge you have accumulated over the trimester, concerning the different theories and models of grief and loss covered. You are to particularise your treatment plan to the specifics of the case: taking into consideration personal, historical, cultural, spiritual and broadly contextual features that may impact the client’s experience of grief, and consequently the most suitable treatment plan.

Your conceptualisation should be attentive to the different intersecting factors that might impact your client’s experience of grief, and the various intersecting forms of grief and loss the client may be experiencing.

You may draw upon any suitable case formulation model that proves robust in structuring your case conceptualisation. But as a guide you might chose to use:  Ingram, B. L. (2011). Clinical case formulations: Matching the integrative treatment plan to the client. John Wiley & Sons.
