Introduction:
The current reflective study has focused on addressing the issue of discrimination faced by patients due to age. Being in the profession of adult nursing practice, I have shared my past experiences regarding the discriminatory issues faced by the old age patients. The use of Gibb’s reflective cycle has supported in describing the situation along with explaining the feelings of the individual (Gibbs et. al,. 1998). Evaluation of the situation also helps in addressing necessary steps that need to be considered to deal with the issue. Action plan has also been considered to take relevant steps to deal with the communication challenge faced by the individual in proper way.
Description of the issue:
During the time of working as a nurse in Bedford hospital of UK, I have observed the ill-treatment faced by the old age patient of the hospital. Improper management of administrative department leads to increase the misery of the patients suffering from chroming disease of ageing (McLean & Price, 2018). Sometimes, they do not event get proper treatment from health care professionals. Initially, during the time of my internship at that hospital, I tried to convince administrative staffs to make necessary changes in their treatment procedure (Beugelsdijk, Kostova, & Roth, 2017). I also communicate with family members of the old age patients to get notion about the exact sufferings that are confronted by the patients (McLean & Price, 2018). However, I observed that lack of communication between senior and low management levels have also created issue to deal with the grievance of the patient that affects their service quality.
Lack of attention of the experienced care service providers also creates anger and frustration among the old age patients along with their family members. At the initial stage, I tried to communicate with these patients to know their requirements that need to be fulfilled (Coleman & Willis, 2015). Direct interaction with these individuals has made me aware of the negative experience they have gained from the utter misbehaviour of the health care professionals (McLean & Price, 2018). Therefore, I made an effort to draw attention of higher authority of the hospital regarding the issue. I forwarded them a letter of grievance signed by the family members of these old age patients (Liaquat, 2018). However, long term procedure of progressing with the issue solving matter has created disinterest among the patients and family members. I tried to communicate individually with the service users to manage their treatment (McLean & Price, 2018). During the time of treating the patients, I have also noticed that traditional value of the old age care service users is another reason that need to be considered as a hindrance to provide valuable service. Primitive notion and superstitious believes of the patients creates hindrance for care service providers to attain their demands (McLean & Price, 2018). Restrictive attitude of these individuals also creates great hindrance for these individuals to attain care service in proper way.
Feelings:
Initially, I was a bit hesitant about the care service that is provided to the patients. I was unsure whether the senior administrative department of the health care organisation is taking any step to manage the care service that is offered to deal with the health status of patients. Being a new trainee in the hospital, I was baffled regarding the procedure that need to be followed to deal with the care service that is offered to the service users (McLean & Price, 2018). I understood the real situation regarding the difficulties that are faced wile dealing with the old age patients (Liaquat, 2018). I realised lack of communication is a vital factor that creates hindrance to offer proper care treatment to the patients. Ailing condition of the patients also restricts them from attaining the care service (McLean & Price, 2018). Due to ageing, these individuals also restricts the involvement of the individuals belonging from different cultural background. Ritual beliefs and ethical values of these individuals contributes in shaping their decision of offering valuable service to the users existing in the hospital setting.
The past learning experience has made me aware of the fact that essential changes in the functionality of the administrative department will be beneficial to manage the care service that is provided to the care service users existing in the hospital setting. I have realised that regular communication between the different management level professionals will be beneficial to manage the care service system that will be offered to old age patients. Inclusion of the monthly meeting session will be beneficial to manage the communication occurred in the service users (Coleman & Willis, 2015). Direct interaction between different management level staffs will also provide a chance to improve the service system offered to the users. Detailed discussion of the number of old age patients, their requirements, cultural perspectives followed by them along with the service quality is beneficial to offer valuable care service to patients. The opinion of the health care professionals plays a vital part to decide the course of direction that will be followed to manage their health status (Beugelsdijk, Kostova, & Roth, 2017). It will teach the health care professionals about the roles and responsibilities that need to be followed by them. Training and development sessions also need to be considered to manage the skill of health acre professionals in the workplace (Liaquat, 2018).. I have also observed that attending the training program will help me to improve the communication skill that is essential to manage old age patients in health care centre. I have a strong feeling that proposed changes will be beneficial to manage the care service that influences health condition of the individual (Coleman & Willis, 2015). Initially, I was a bit unsure about the effective implementation of the plan due to differences on opinion of the large number of persons involved in health care setting. However, mutual agreement of the different health care professionals increases the chances of managing the care service (Liaquat, 2018). I feel confident about the improvement that will be done to reach old age patients. The senior administrative department can also take decision of arranging separate ICU setting or emergency settings in order to provide quack service to the patients in limited timespan.
Evaluation:
Progression of the module learning has made me knowledgeable about the changes in the course of service and treatment procedure that need to be followed to manage the care service system offered to the service users. I have a positive experienceduring the time of progressing with the learning. Direct understanding of the idea of health care professionals increases the chances of managing the care service that is offered to the users in limited time span (Liaquat, 2018). Face-to-face communication with the service users has made me knowledgeable about how to interact with the old age persons who require critical care service (Beugelsdijk, Kostova, & Roth, 2017). I have also come to know about the interaction that need to be conveyed with the family members of the patient (Coleman & Willis, 2015). However, lack of understanding the acute treatment procedure creates issue for me to get ide about the communication that need to be started to get idea about the opinion of the patient regarding the service (Liaquat, 2018). Bring a trainee during the learning phase, I will face problem to convey my opinion to the senior level staffs regarding the services that can be offered to the patient. However, progression with the learningexperience has made me knowledgeable about the changes in the learning experience in recent time (Liaquat, 2018). Earlier I used to believe that lack of communication and age difference are vital factors that resist the progress of the care service offered to the users. However, attending discussion session along with progressing with the learning procedure has made me understood about the communication pattern that need to be followed to manage the care service that need to be offered to the old age patients.
Incorporation of the service user opinion is beneficial to manage the care service along with understanding the treatment procedure. After proceeding with the learning style, I have understood that arranging interaction session is important to reduce the grievance of the service users’ family members (Beugelsdijk, Kostova, & Roth, 2017). The opinion of the family members before proceeding with the care service is important to manage the care service that is offered to patients (Coleman & Willis, 2015). The learning experience during the module will help me to establish myself as an adult nursing in a reputed health care organisation in UK. Getting general idea about the use of taking necessary action will help me to save the life of the old age patient during the time of critical health condition. Inclusion of the intervention program is useful to manage the care treatment provided to patient to improve health status. Sharing valuable opinion with nurses will also help to manage overall care service that is provided to health patients. Inclusion of the innovative care plan is important to manage the treatment offered to target patients (Coleman & Willis, 2015). Getting trust and loyalty of the service user is essential factor that also needs to be considered in this context. Direct interaction with the service users increases the chances of managing the care issues that is faced by the care service providers in hospital setting (Coleman & Willis, 2015). Regular observation and taking feedback will help me to get positive feedback from them regarding the care service. It also helps in addressing the challenges that are faced by them.
Analysis:
Based on the analysis of the learningmoduleexperience, I have understood that my practical knowledge during the internship has made me aware of the skills that need to be possessed by the nursing professionals in workplace. Interactive power of mine will make it easier for me to get trust of the patients (Beugelsdijk, Kostova, & Roth, 2017). Empathetic attitude will be another factor that willmakeit easier for me to address the right treatment procedure that is considered. Sharing of valuable idea is beneficial to take clear idea about the treatment procedure that will be offered (Coleman & Willis, 2015). However, I have observed that lack of decision making skill will create hindrance for me to take quick decisions during the item of handing old age patients at critical event. I have understood the importance of improving strategic decision making power to deal with the health issues of these individuals. Therefore, I will focus on managing the decision making power which will strongly influence my future career growth (Coleman & Willis, 2015). The use of innovative plan is important to manage the decision making skill which will enable me to progress with the care plan (Beugelsdijk, Kostova, & Roth, 2017). Therefore, I am thinking about attending training session. It will enable me to get idea about the senior professionals and how they take quack decisions (Beugelsdijk, Kostova, & Roth, 2017) An innovative idea in the session will help me to improve my skill in order to manage with the care service system./ Inclusion of the opinion of large number of individuals is beneficial to manage the care service system. I will be capable of taking strategic decision to manage the decision of care service system (Beugelsdijk, Kostova, & Roth, 2017). However, my ability of problem solving power is in favour of mine that will enable me to manage the problems offered to the individual.
The intention of the individual is important to progress with the idea (Coleman & Willis, 2015). I have thought about considering the necessary action program where old age patients along with the family members are free to vent out their grievance along with the facilities provided by the hospital. It will enhance the involvement of the patient and it will make them capable of managing the care service that is offered by the individuals. Attending a short course on online site will also manage the skill that is required by me to handle the critical scenario. I will join six months crash course that is helpful to deal with the problem to improvethe health condition. Attending seminars will also enable me to get idea about the cultural values that is observed by patients. Core traditional culture of the individual plays a vital role in progressing with the treatmentemployees (Beugelsdijk, Kostova, & Roth, 2017).. The use of innovative action plan is beneficial to improve health problem of these persons on proper direction. Getting availability of the intervention program is useful to manage the status of the patient and the degree of treatment that needs be availed by them (DeCenzo, 2017).
Conclusion:
Based on the analysis of the learning experience, it can be concluded that the current learning experience has made me capable of addressing the core demands of the old age patients and the discriminatory attitude faced by them in health care setting (Liaquat, 2018). I have understood that old age and primitive notion have made these persons isolated from the care service that is offered in hospital setting (Coleman & Willis, 2015). The use of innovative care plan is important to reduce their problems (Beugelsdijk, Kostova, & Roth, 2017). During the development of the learning module, I have come to know about the progressing attitude that can be managed in discussion session of the administrative department to manage the health condition (Coleman & Willis, 2015). Getting idea about the senior level staffs is important to manage the core functionality of the health care sector. I have also understood tat strong communication will enable me to deal with the issues successfully (Coleman & Willis, 2015). On other hand, lack of decision among power creates trouble for me to manage the quick steps considered in favour of the setting (Coleman & Willis, 2015). Therefore, I thought about attending seminar session along with the online course to improve the communication. I have also considered the importance of managing the care service thought following up the learning materials offered in the classroom session. The reflective cycle has supported in describing the situation along with explaining the feelings of the individual. Evaluation of the situation also helps in addressing necessary steps that need to be considered to deal with the issue. Action plan has also been considered to take relevant steps to deal with the communication challenge faced by the individual in proper way.
Action Plan:
The action plan will be considered to manage the necessary steps that need to be considered by me. I have thought about attending six months online learning course which will help me to improve my decision making power. It will increase my capability of arranging the online study course (Coleman & Willis, 2015). On other hand, attending classroom session and training development program will also support me to improve my skill as an adult nursing professional (Coleman & Willis, 2015). The use of innovative plan is important to deal with critical care issue that improves service of patients.
